Facebook’s new standalone VR headset, Oculus Quest, has been shown running mixed reality similar to what’s seen with Microsoft’s HoloLens and Magic Leap One.
A demo video shown at Oculus Connect 5 today showcased the new headset using cameras to display the real world inside the headset and augment it with virtual assets. Facebook’s Andrew Bosworth was shown interacting with a real world keyboard whilst looking at virtual windows. The real world had a white hue to it, obscuring true colors.
The showcase was described as a “very early concept” and that it “won’t be ready for a while” suggesting that it won’t be available on the kit when it launches in spring 2019. Bosworth noted that mixed reality was ‘important’ to the next five years of VR, though.
