Oculus Connect 4 Announced For October

by Jamie Feltham • June 22nd, 2017

With Facebook’s F8 developer conference featuring more VR by the year, we had wondered if there was still a place for Oculus Connect in the world. Fear not; Oculus Connect 4 is just a few months away.

The company just revealed that the fourth iteration of its conference will take place from October 11th – 12th at the San Jose Ncenery Convnetion Center in San Jose. There’s really not much else to talk about now, but you can register at an official site to be alerted to when sign-ups open.

It is one day shorter than last year’s show, which ran from October 5th – 7th, but we’re still expecting a big event, especially considering the company just skipped E3. Last year the company debuted Facebook Spaces and the Santa Cruz prototype for its standalone headset, and we’d expect an update on the latter at the show.

What's your reaction?
  • Cool. It will be interesting to see what it has to show off.

I’ve said before that I feel as if a 2017 reveal or prototype reveal for CV2 would be too soon. If history is anything to go by and taking in the language used by Oculus themselves we should see a reveal of some sort either spring or fall (if done at connect) of 2018 with a hard launch spring of 2019. Gear VR, Santa Cruz, and accessories (like trackers, or other capture accessories) are a different matter. (hoping for trackers!)

      • Well, I guess we’ll know soon enough.

Yes, just gather at the Kool Aid dispenser with the other sheep (oculus forums). I’m sure you’ll enjoy the circle jerk.

There will be no CV2 fgs, isn’t it more than obvious by now than facebook (stop calling them oculus that’s a marketing lie) have no interest in PC VR/Rift 2 for many, many years if at all.

It’ll be more mobile VR and standalone (Santa Cruz) stuff, you know, the kind of thing Facebook can really control, DRM up to the eyeballs and data harvest from!

        • You trully have no idea what you’re talking about.

Great! I can’t wait to hear Abrash talk about the McGurk effect for the 4th year running, and for Carmack to witter on about mobile VR (which nobody gives a damn about) and how ‘hard’ VR is when you are trying to make it happen on an expensive mini computer that costs more than most decent PC GPUs.

Thrilling stuff, I’m sure the fanboys will lap it up (again).

    • Ahahahah the McGurk effect

    • Actually mobile VR is BY FAR most sold of all the VR headsets out there. I have no idea what you’re talking about.

  • Happy it will be again, I was afraid that F8 would have eaten it (before of after, I guess it will happen)

Awesome, with so many questions surrounding VR, this will be a huge event. Good to know that FB remains committed to pushing through the early years of VR adoption. I’m sure they’ll have some big announcements to share.
