Oculus Launch Pad Opens 2018 Applications For Diverse VR Projects

Oculus is once again on the hunt for VR projects created by a diverse set of developers and filmmakers.

The VR specialist this week launched applications for the 2018 iteration of its Launch Pad initiative. Now in its third year, the scheme looks to provide women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and people from other underrepresented backgrounds with the resources they need to get their VR projects made.

As with previous years, successful applicants will be invited to a two-day boot camp at Oculus’ headquarters in Menlo Park on June 23rd and 24th. There, up to 100 content creators will be given advice on getting started with their apps, with support then stretching out across the coming months.

In past years, the programme has spawned memorable projects such as Derek Ham’s thought-provoking I Am A Man, which recounts the days surrounding the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through the eyes of a black person.

Applications for Launch Pad are open until May 20th and are looking for 360 degree films, VR experiences and VR games. In the past Oculus has invested more than $900,000 across over 200 developers, and this year it could be you getting some of that help.
