For a limited time Facebook is selling refurbished versions of the original Oculus Quest for $199.
The offer brings the original Oculus Quest $100 under the entry level price of the Oculus Quest 2. It also takes the Quest to the price coveted by the now-discontinued Oculus Go while delivering a much powerful gaming-focused system.
The website for the product advertises “as good as new” and says “All refurbished Oculus Quest products are inspected, cleaned and tested to work and look like new.”
The below screenshot from the Oculus website outlines the process for approving devices for resale after refurbishment. The headsets are backed by a 6-month warranty and 30-day return policy.
We don’t know how long supplies will last but this certainly a tempting offer for those looking to get a Quest but without the funds to get a Quest 2. Keep in mind, however, that the Quest 2 is a dramatic upgrade over the original device and likely to be supported for a much longer period because of the more powerful XR2 processor in the newer device. We’d recommend getting the Quest 2 over the original if you can afford it, but $199 for room-scale VR with a content library as strong as Quest’s is still a pretty compelling package. Keep in mind also that the original Quest is much heavier than the Quest 2.
