Oculus' Rift Gold Rush Could Win You Free Stuff Just For Being In VR

The Oculus Rift turns two today, and the VR specialist is looking to celebrate. Along with a fresh sale and new game announcements, the company is running a unique competition.

Today Oculus is announcing the Rift Gold Rush, which could earn VR owners prizes just for playing some of their favorite games. It works pretty simply; all you need to do is be playing a specified game at a specified time to be in with a chance of being randomly selected for prizes. This weekend, for example, Hidden Path Entertainment’s Brass Tactics is going free to play. If you’re in the game between 1:00 – 2:00 pm PT on March 31st, you’ll be in with a chance of winning. Oculus gets more people playing its games, you maybe get some free stuff out of it. Win-win, right?

But what could you actually win? Oculus is touting $28,000 prize pool that includes goodies like Oculus Store credits and even a brand new PC. There’s also a slim chance you’ll be awarded with an elusive ‘Golden Account’ that unlocks 100 pre-selected games at no extra cost. More events will be running over the course of the next few weeks, so keep an eye out if you don’t manage to bag anything this weekend.

Elsewhere, Oculus is also offering $50 Oculus Store credit for every Rift bought between now and April 3rd, which goes nicely with a brand new sale that features up to 75% off of some of VR’s biggest games to date.
