Oculus Shuffles Rubin, Arnold into New Roles

It’s been around two years since former THQ CEO and Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin came on board at Oculus as Head of Oculus Studios. Today, he takes on a new role at the company.

Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe has just announced via Facebook that Rubin will now serve as Head of Content for the VR specialist. His new job will see him surveying the development and publishing of all VR experiences coming to Rift and Gear, and not just those that Oculus has partnered with under the Studios banner.

That’s not just games, either, as Rubin will also be overseeing videos, apps, and even content in the works at the company’s film-focused division, Oculus Story Studio. Considering just how much content is coming to these platforms, it’s a big step up.

In his previous role, Rubin helped bring developers like Insomniac Games, Gunfire Games and Harmonix into the world of VR. Replacing him as Head of Oculus Studios is Steve Arnold, who steps up from his two-year tenure as Head of Production at the company. Along with his predecessor, he’ll work with Head of Publishing Jason Holtman and Head of Content Strategy Robert Stevenson, bringing new content to Oculus platforms.

It looks like everything will continue to run as per usual; this week as seen the announcement of new Oculus Studios titles among other Rift releases.

“We have an incredible team building the best VR content across mobile and PC platforms,” Iribe said of the news. “Thrilled to see what they ship next!”

The Rift may have launched a few months ago, but Oculus still has a busy year ahead of it. The company still has to straighten out shipping issues with its flagship HMD, which continue to plague customers. Oculus Touch, meanwhile, is due to launch in the second half of the year, and Oculus has this week promised more information for the position-tracked controllers this fall. Perhaps we can expect to see more at the as-of-yet unannounced return of the Oculus Connect developer conference.
