A One Piece Game Is Coming To PSVR

Good news manga and anime fans; one of the most popular series to come out of Japan in the past two decades is on its way to PlayStation VR (PSVR)

Gematsu reports that a One Piece title is in development for Sony’s headset, though there isn’t a whole lot more to go on right now. Screenshots from Japan’s Weekly Jump magazine apparently show players exploring a ship. Fans will learn much more about the project when it goes on display at a special One Piece event in Tokyo later this month. Another, more traditional One Piece game is in development too.

One Piece follows a band of pirates searching for its titular treasure. The series is celebrating its 20th anniversary in just under a weeks’ time on July 17th, so there’s plenty of potential material to pull from for the VR experience. Will we get to play as series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy? Or is something else in store.

Obviously we have no idea if this experience could make its way to the west, but fingers crossed all the same.

This isn’t the first anime series we’re seeing adapted for VR; Dragon Ball VR is coming to arcades and other classic hallmarks like Ghost in the Shell have their own experiences too. Are there any series you’d like to see in VR?
