Stunning New Paper Beast Gameplay Teaser Shows New Environment

It can be quite easy to lose yourself in the visual oddities of Pixel Reef’s Paper Beast. That’s especially true in this new trailer, which debuted at our Holiday VR Showcase last week.

Paper Beast is the new game from the mind of French developer Eric Chahi, best known for 1991 adventure, Another World. In the game, you explore a digital ecosystem that’s taken of a life of its own. Curious papercraft creations roam the land for you to interact with using PlayStation Move controllers. Most of what we’ve seen of the game thus far takes place in a desert setting.

In this latest look at the game, we travel to icier climates, where spikey tumbleweeds freeze water with a single touch and animals start to skid and slip across the wastes. There’s also a glimpse of some new creature types, including one that seems to, well, dump ice out of its butt. Charming.

We’ll be really interested to see how this environment changes up Paper Beast’s dynamics. We’ve been hands-on with the game already and come away fascinated by its interactions with animals and the living, breathing food chain it establishes.

That was far from the only reveal at our Holiday VR Showcase. We also confirmed that Ghost Giant was coming to Quest, gave you a first look at Phantom: Covert Ops gameplay on the Oculus Rift and got up-to-date on Solaris. Overall, not a bad show!

Paper Beast is due for release on PSVR next year. No word yet on a possible launch on PC VR headsets or Oculus Quest, but fingers crossed.
