Payday 2 VR Beta May Be Coming This Month

A few months ago we found out that Overkill was bringing its popular online heist simulator, Payday 2, to VR. Since then we haven’t really heard much about the game but we may be playing it very, very soon.

The official Payday 2 press account recently dropped a teaser for its upcoming event, named Locke and Load. The event promises daily updates on all things Payday 2 from October 19th to 28th. A tease of what to expect on each day was also posted in the tweet. Tellingly, day four features a VR headset icon as its tease. Does that mean beta VR support may be released on October 23rd? We’re hoping so, though it could just as easily be a fresh look at the VR mode.

Overkill has so far only confirmed that a beta would release in 2017, which is why we’re thinking this will be merely a testing version rather than the full launch, though we’d certainly welcome the latter too.

The game is a first-person shooter (FPS) in which you meet up with friends online and attempt to pull off stylish heists straight out of a Michael Mann movie. Expect shootouts and loot aplenty, as the trailer below suggests.

Payday 2’s VR support will arrive as a free updated for everyone that already owns the game and can even be played with people running the traditional version of the game on PC. So far we know the game will support the HTC Vive, though it remains to be seen if Oculus Rift support will be included too.
