The Persona franchise has earned a reputation as one of gaming’s most stylish franchises, especially with last year’s release of Persona 5. Now the series is bringing its charm to PSVR.
Two upcoming spin-offs for the series, Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night and Persona 5: Dancing Star Night, are set to feature PlayStation VR (PSVR) support when they launch in Japan later this year. The Japanese version of the PlayStation Blog confirms as much, noting (via Google Translate): “You can also enjoy the conversation event “Commu” with the character and the element compatible with PlayStation VR in the PS4 version.”
There aren’t any details on what the PSVR support will actually consist of at this time.
As the titles suggest, these games aren’t full Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) like the traditional Persona titles but instead feature the cast of their respective games in dance-off battles. We could see this being quite an easy fit with VR letting you embody characters and dance with the Move controllers, though it’s also entirely possible the PSVR support is limited to something like a character model viewer.
Sadly, a Western release for either game hasn’t yet been confirmed, though the series is gaining popularity here and the previous spin-off, Persona 4: Dancing All Night launched in the US and EU, so there’s every chance they’ll come over.
As for the PSVR support, the game releases in Japan in mid-May, so we’ll likely find out what it consists of around then.
