Pistol Whip will receive an update on December 19 that features a brand new free level called “High Priestess”.
Pistol Whip is a hit VR rhythm-meets-shooter game from Cloudhead Games that launched earlier this month with 10 levels. The game was first revealed during our E3 VR showcase earlier this year and the update was announced in our Holiday VR Showcase. The update with the free level arrives in just a few weeks as the game’s first post-launch addition.
Speaking about the new “High Priestess” map, Cloudhead told us to expect even more melee action from this level.
“It puts the name into Pistol Whip, for sure,” said Daniel Taylor, a designer and level builder for the game. He also said that the inspiration for the level came from a scene in the movie Oldboy.
Cloudhead said it is also working on new modifiers for the game designed to “broaden the experience” that should be included with this update. In our review we said the game’s “multiple difficulties and modifiers like Deadeye and Dual-wield add depth to a game that’s more addictive and satisfying than Beat Saber.” The studio is also working on adding achievements, though those may not make it into this update. Previously, the developers said they had a robust roadmap planned for the game including both paid and free levels.
While you wait for the update, be sure to check out five ways you can play Pistol Whip with different modifiers, along with our interview with Denny Unger, CEO of Cloudhead Games, which was conducted on our filmed-in-VR podcast The VR Download.
