PlayStation Media Showcase Announced For Paris Games Week

In a somewhat surprising move, Sony has announced that it will be hosting a PlayStation Media Showcase during this year’s Paris Games Week.

The showcase will be taking place on October 30th at 9am PT/12pm ET/4pm BT. The news is unexpected given that the company decided not to host a showcase at the event last year, having held one in 2015 in lieu of a showing at Gamescom in Germany. We had assumed Sony was settling for two main showcases a year, one halfway through the calendar at E3 in June and one just before the holidays at its own PlayStation Experience event in the US. Guess not.

Sony’s European showcases tend to focus on games developed around the region. That means titles like Detroid: Beyond Human from France-based Quantic Dream and the Horizon: Zero Dawn DLC from Netherlands-based Guerrilla Games are likely going to be there.

But what about VR? After such a strong showing for the company’s PlayStation VR (PSVR) at E3, we’re hopeful Sony will follow up with another big hit at this showcase. For one thing, we’re excited to see more of Media Molecule’s Dream, a game that’s been teased for VR support many times over. It’s mean to be a sort of game creator tool, almost as if Oculus Medium or Tilt Brush had their own game mechanics baked-in. We’re very hopeful to see more of that at the showcase, then.

It’s also been over two years now since Sony launched its UK-based North West Studio, which is dedicated to making PSVR games. We also know the London Studio team is making another PSVR game, so these are possible candidates along with any other third-party showings.

We’re getting a little excited already, so we’ll just have to hold on for a few more months.
