Before the launch of Sony’s PlayStation VR headset this October, fans were curious if the gaming giant would start including VR titles in its monthly PlayStation Plus free game bundles. As it turns out, one of the games offered this coming December will be Hyper Void, a non-VR indie game that actually features a free downloadable VR-support add-on, similar to how the wonderful Bound added VR integration.
For those unaware, on the first Tuesday of every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers are treated to a small collection of free games that can be redeemed on their accounts. Each month includes 2 Vita, 2 PS3, and 2 PS4 titles. Due to the cross-platform purchasing and compatibility of many games, sometimes a Vita game is also available on PS3 and PS4, or a PS3 is also on PS4, and so on.
This month, the two PS4-focused titles are actually Invisible Inc. and Stories: The Path of Destinies. However, 3 other titles, including Hyper Void, Tiny Troopers Joint Ops, and Color Guardians will also work on your PS4 if redeemed. Most notably for us though, is Hyper Void.
Shortly after the PS VR released, Hyper Void received a VR-support update that could be downloaded for free by anyone that owned the game. Since PS+ subscribers are now receiving the game itself for free, that equates to Sony’s first free VR game it’s given away through PlayStation Plus.
Hyper Void is a fast-paced space game that tasks you with controlling a ship as you dodge and shoot enemies across a variety of bright and pulse-pounding levels. Stylistically, it’s reminiscent of Thumper, but the gameplay is much more akin to a scrolling shooter with 3D visuals. VR doesn’t add a whole lot to the experience, but free is free.
You can find out more information about Hyper Void on the game’s official website.
