Over 7,000 Starbucks Stores Are Now 'Pokemon GO' Gyms and PokeStops (Update)

Update: Niantic officially announced today that 7,800 company-operated Starbucks locations throughout the U.S. are officially becoming PokeStops and Gyms in the AR game, Pokemon GO. This will also include a special edition Frappuccino because obviously it does.

Original: Already caught ’em all? No problem; Niantic’s Pokemon GO is soon to be updated with a bunch of new pocket monsters for you to track down and train up.

This is according to the official Pokemon Twitter account, however it didn’t share many other details regarding which Pokemon exactly would join the current allstar team. But, what we were told was that more details are to be revealed on December 12th, so there is no telling whether or not this will be a major update to the current database or simply a couple more beasts to be thrown into the mix.

Whichever way Niantic Labs chooses to go, what would make most sense at this point is an expansion into the next generation of Pokemon as many of the fan favorites from first gen are already included. That said some major monsters like Mewtwo are still to be added. Personally, I’m rooting for the chance to catch a Tododile, but it’s anyone’s guess as to which other Pokemon will be included in the next four days.

If this is a Generation II roll out, then we have plenty of ideas about how Niantic should go about it.

The tease arrives following reports that Pokemon GO will be teaming up with Starbucks in an announcement allegedly set to be made later today. If true, a huge number of Starbucks sites across the US will soon be turned into a PokeStop or Gym. That’s a lot of new sites and a lot of coffee sold.

Pokemon GO may no longer be the worldwide sensation that consumed basically everyone this past summer, but updates like added support for Apple Watch keep giving players reasons to come back, rekindling their love for the nostalgia-filled AR title. If this announcement of new Pokemon is the first of many smaller installments, there would be a greater chance of keeping the attention of players – both loyal and fickle alike.
