Post Malone’s concert in Raleigh, NC on October 17 will be streamed live in VR in Oculus Venues, available on the Quest and the Go.
The VR stream will be produced Supersphere, who also produced the recent Billie Eilish concert streamed in Venues last month.
The concert begins at 5:00pm PST on October 17th and ends at 8:30pm. Given the 3.5 hour length of the allocated time, it seems likely that the support acts might be streamed in Venues as well. This is also a good indicator that the Post Malone concert won’t be pre-recorded, but broadcast live.
The recent Billie Eilish concert was only given a one hour time slot in Venues. It was also broadcast at a time that didn’t match the actual start time of the concert in Spain. Disappointingly, this seemingly meant it was a pre-recorded broadcast and not live in Venues.
However, it seems like Supersphere will be broadcasting this Post Malone concert live, as the Venues broadcast time appears to line up with the event start in Raleigh.
The concert is part of Post Malone’s Runaway Tour across the US, in support of his new album Hollywood’s Bleeding. It will be interesting to see how this VR concert differs from the Billie Eilish one last month. I found the Billie Eilish concert to be a fun social experience, but it wasn’t the best possible implementation of the technology. I’m hoping that future Venues events, such as this Post Malone concert, are broadcast to make the viewing experience more realistic, immersive and closer to watching an actual concert or event.
You can follow the event online or in Oculus Venues on your Quest or Go. We’ll definitely be tuning in to see Post Malone take the (virtual) stage in Venues on the 17th? Who else will we be seeing there? Let us know in the comments below.
