China-based Winking Entertainment is turning into a VR developer to watch. Its Vive game, Project Tres, is very promising, but its PlayStation VR debut, Unearthing Mars, is starting to look a lot more interesting, too.
Unearthing Mars has a new trailer, and it shows a lot more of the game than we got to see at Gamescom earlier this year. There, I played a brief section in which I attempted to land on the Red Planet. It was impressive, but it didn’t give much away about the core mechanics of the game, which uses two PlayStation Move controllers. This new footage, however, pulls back the curtain on what else players will be doing, and it looks like things go much deeper.

Namely, we could be getting some alien invasions and end of the world-style shootouts against War of the Worlds-esque machines. Players seemingly get a handgun and a shield to take the fight to this mysterious force. It looks pretty polished, but we’ll have to get our hands on it ourselves to properly judge.
You probably also spotted the January 19th release date at the end of the trailer. Sadly, that’s only for Asia right now, which a Facebook post notes will be getting the game first. We’ve reached out to Winking about the possibility of a US/EU release in the near future, and we’ll hopefully be able to update this page with information soon. The developer did previously tell us that it was planning to release the game around Christmas in all territories.
The Asian version of the game will support the English language, though, so if you have access to an Asian PlayStation account, you might be able to grab it early.
