PSVR's Until Dawn Prequel The Inpatient Has Branching Narrative And Multiple Endings

Last week we learned that The Inpatient, the prequel to Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn coming exclusively to PlayStation VR (PSVR), would be released in late November. The game looks quite different to the 2015 original, but it does have some key features in common.

Namely, The Inpatient will include a branching narrative and multiple endings. The game’s official web page confirms as much, explaining that players will be cast as a character trying to uncover their past as they explore the Blackwood Pines Sanatorium that they have been incarcerated in. It’s set 60 years before the events of Until Dawn, in which you explained the ruins of the Sanatorium.

The page also notes that the game features “innovative voice controls” for character dialogue, but we’re not sure exactly what that means. Are there new features yet to be revealed?

It’s interesting to see The Inpatient share some mechanical roots with Until Dawn, as it otherwise looks quite different from the original game. The 2D title, for example, followed multiple protagonists from a third-person perspective, while The Inpatient appears to only cast you as one character played from a first-person view. There’s still a lot to learn about the game, but we’ll find out all we need to know in a little under three months’ time.

The Inpatient hits PSVR on November 22nd.
