Facebook’s new Oculus App Lab feature for Quest just got its first release since last week’s launch, and it’s for DB Creations’ Rhythm ‘n Bullets.
The arcade-inspired action game is now available on the new distribution channel for $9.99. The game had already come to Quest via SideQuest and is also available on PC VR headsets via Steam and Viveport.
As the name suggests, Rhythm ‘n Bullets mixes its retro influences with music. The game has you controlling starfighters with your hands and blasting enemies while avoiding incoming bullets. You can expect all the usual staples: waves of enemies, power-ups, leaderboards and even a choice between the campaign and endless modes, all set to one of four environment types.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen VR tackle the nostalgic days of the arcade in this way; Shooty Skies Overdrive is a very similar title that released on Quest last year.
App Lab was introduced last week as an alternative means of getting content onto Oculus Quest without having to pass Facebook’s strict curation guidelines for the official store, nor asking users to sideload content onto their device. The feature launched with 12 titles including some that have been rejected from the official store, like both Crisis VRigade titles. The feature doesn’t allow apps to be seen directly on the Oculus Store but, following its launch, SideQuest launched a new category for apps that link straight to the store listings.
