Ridley Scott's Dedicated VR Division Is Working On An Alien Experience

The production studio co-founded by acclaimed director Ridley Scott is announcing the launch of a new, in-house virtual reality division known as RSA VR. According to an official statement from RSA (aka Ridley Scott and Associates):

RSA Films has launched RSA VR, a new division dedicated exclusively to the creative development and production of VR, AR and mixed media…led by co-founder Ridley Scott whose prolific body of work consistently uses the latest tools of filmmaking in innovative and creative ways.”

The VR division of RSA will be headed up by Jen Dennis. Dennis has helped shepherd Scott’s inaugural VR piece, The Martian VR Experience, as a co-executive producer.

“I think VR is one of the most exciting areas in the industry today, with potential to influence how we consume content for generations to come. I enjoy everything from assembling teams and forging partnerships to create, distribute and market VR content, to having an ongoing informative – and often inspirational dialogue – with colleagues in the space. I consider us in a unique position to undertake this with RSA’s talented roster of directors,” Dennis said in a prepared statement.

RSA VR’s first project will be a joint effort with Twentieth Century Fox’s FoxNext and Technicolor’s MPC. This experience will take place in the world of the upcoming Alien: Covenant — the latest entry in Scott’s Alien franchise and a follow up to 2012’s Prometheus.

Details are thin right now for what exact form Covenant’s VR experience will take. However, we do know that Scott himself will be executive producing alongside Dennis.

The list of directors RSA says are actively pursuing VR projects as part of the new division includes: David Karlak, Robert Stromberg, Aya Tanimura, Juriaan Booij, Michael Muller, Henrik Hansen, Jordan Scott, Luke Scott, Jake Scott, Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen, Ben Mor, Andrew Hines and Shynola. In total, RSA works with over 70 directors that could also potentially create their own VR projects.

Alien Covenant will be a science fiction/horror story that follows a crew of outer space explorers and their encounters with a race of ancient extra terrestrials. The film will release on May 19 and stars Michael Fassbender (Assassins Creed), Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) and Katherine Watterson (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them).
