Described by the developers as a “VR arcade-style mug management frenzy”, Root Beer On Tap will make you pour and serve drinks until your arms are sore and all the customers are gone. You’ll need to make sure everyone is happy and gulping down drinks until they leave – and try not to break any of their glasses.
Launching into early access next week on October 29, Root Beer On Tap is the first title from Hypernoodle Games. According to the developers, the game was inspired by 80s arcade games and is “designed to be played in short bursts, or passed around between many people as a taste of what VR can bring.”
The trailer gives me similar vibes to the popular kitchen-management game Overcooked, although it doesn’t look quite as insanely stressful and obviously deals with (non-alcoholic) drinks as opposed to food. The environments in each level look beautifully varied and the general art style balances the line of blocky-structures and cartoon-ish features really well.
According to Hypernoodle Games, the game is best played with Index Controllers, but it will run on any PC VR headset, including Index, Rift, Vive and Windows MR headsets.
The team has also stated that the game will stay in early access for 3-5 months, during which time they’ll add rewards for level progression and build accessibility features. The early access version of the game will allow you to play through all the game’s levels, with five different themes and the promise of some alternate and hidden levels as well.
The game is available to wishlist on Steam ahead of its early access release on the platform next week.
