The Oculus Mobile VR Jam is well underway at this point, and with a million dollar purse it has garnered a whole lot of attention from the community. Over 1700 developers, in teams, registered for the competition – which has yielded over 470 new VR demos for the Samsung Gear VR. There have been a lot of really interesting submissions and our friend Cory Corvus of Corvus VR has handily assembled a collection of 60 of them in this handy dandy playlist.
The Oculus Mobile VR Jam is currently still underway. Today was the deadline for all of the competitors to submit videos of their current apps and experiences. From here, the developers will go back to work, making the final changes for the push towards the May 11th final deadline. After May 11th, the submissions will be judged by Oculus’ panel with includes: Palmer Luckey, John Carmack, and Lydia Choy, all from Oculus as well as seven others from places like Epic Games, Unity, DreamWorks, and Telltale Games. The final results will be announced on an as-of-yet-to-be determined date in June.
The Oculus Mobile VR Jam is an important occasion for VR. It represents not just the largest purse for a VR Jam event ever, but it helps to signal 2015 as the year for content in VR. Getting a large influx of content through an event like this is a big step towards making VR consumer viable. Because without good content, there are going to be a lot of people asking… “So that was cool, what else can it do?”
