'Slot Tub Party' Is VR's Most Useless Game And I Love It

Do you believe in multiple universes? That there could be an infinite number of alternate Earths, each with its own version of you and your life? Well one of those Earths may be getting overrun with cutting-edge, groundbreaking, world-changing virtual reality experiences. Our Earth, on the other hand, gets Slot Tub Party. Kind of makes you feel bad for those other planets doesn’t it?

Slot Tub Party is a VR video game for the Samsung Gear VR that is almost exactly what it sounds like. No, you’re not dropping coins down a sewer slot in order to appease the demon-troll that guards the underworld (although I’m currently trying to sell that to Oculus myself). Instead Slot Tub Party puts you into a virtual hot tub with some of the Las Vegas Strip’s hottest, dead-eyed, digital party people. Once in that hot tub you have the distinct, and slightly mind-melting pleasure, of playing a series of slot machines that float inexplicably in mid air.

As your mind begins shutting down in the face of this unfathomable cocktail of events you decide to pull that first lever. To your delight you see the triple cherries line up and your entire field of view explodes in fireworks. A booming voice yells “Mega Win” as the same text scrawls into your field of view and you suddenly realize what it must feel like to hit a walkoff grand slam in game seven of the World Series.

Slot Tub Party does not make sense, and it’s questionable how its developer — Japanese studio COLOPL — even settled on the idea. But all I know is I’m glad they did because my life has now been given purpose and validation in this ever-darkening world in which we live.

If my artful words didn’t paint enough of a picture for you, check out the game’s official description:

“Experience the rush of Vegas for the first time ever in Virtual Reality! Slot Tub Party offers 3 unique slot machines each with a variety of ways to win. Travel to Vegas, play on the beach, or take to the skies!”
Slot Tub Party costs $5.99 and is available for download now on the Oculus Store. Once you download it, there will be no going back. For me, there is no longer work, or family, or friendship. There is only Slot Tub Party. Hail Zhul.
