Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR Gets New Content Based On The Last Jedi

Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR Gets New Content Based On The Last Jedi

Update: This expansion is now available for free!

Original: When we reviewed the Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR kit earlier this year one of the main concerns we raised was a relative lack of content from a long-term playability perspective. But at least the box and its contents look nice.

Since it was all mobile app-powered adding new content is much easier to push out than traditional game updates, so an expectation of new content was established. Luckily, the team at Lenovo, Lucasfilm, and Disney were able to fulfill that desire already.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (the movie) releases later this week and now, Disney, Lucasfilm, and Lenovo are announcing plans to bring characters and events from the film into the AR game world.

The update will be available 100% free of charge for all players to download in January 2018 (next month) and adds a whole swath of new content, including:

  • New Lightsaber Duel – Players can duel two elite Praetorian Guards featured in The Last Jedi. This is the first time Jedi Challenges players will duel two characters at the same time.
  • New Planet for Strategic Combat – Three thrilling new levels of Strategic Combat set on Crait, a brand new planet that debuts in thefilm, will come with the update. Battle new enemies and vehicles including the formidable First Order AT-M6 walker.
  • New Content in Assault mode – All-new enemies and levels will be introduced, including the First Order Stormtrooper Executioner and Riot Control Stormtrooper.
  • Introduction of Porgs – Players will be rewarded with fan-favorite porgs in augmented reality.

We haven’t had the chance to go hands-on with this update yet, but at the same press briefing we got the chance to see an advanced screening of The Last Jedi. No spoilers here, but I will say that the Praetorian Guards are absolutely badass. Fighting those guys in AR is going to be nuts!
