You Can Now Play One Of The Best Star Wars Games In VR (With A Gamepad)

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is widely considered to be one of the best videogames in the franchise’s long history. That’s largely thanks to the game’s excellent lightsaber combat, which is still one of the few systems to ever really capture the feel of wielding the weapon.

Now you can play it in VR.

Before we go much further we should point out that that’s with a gamepad, and not Oculus Touch controllers. All the same, this impressive mod from Jochen Leopold deserves a look. You can play the entire game inside the Oculus Rift, and the developer has even removed some of the game’s forced camera movements to make it a much more comfortable experience. Leopold also made a similar mod for the game’s sequel, Jedi Academy, a few years ago.

We went hands-on with it, which you can see below (apologies for the lack of sound and our general awfulness). It’s amazing to step back into this world in VR, though it’s a little trickier to actually play it.

On the subject of Touch support, Leopold said that he wasn’t sure how much work it would take, or if it was even possible. We’re sure it would be a hearty challenge to get it working, but boy would we love to see it pulled off. Maybe Disney should take note?
