Good news for Rift/Rift S owners that didn’t take the plunge on Oculus Quest. The PC VR version of Star Wars: Vader Immortal Episode 1 hits those headsets next week.
Developer ILMxLAB this week confirmed the experience will launch on Rift and Rift S on June 20. That will mean the app was exclusive to Quest for a little under a week. If you’re looking for more news on the title you can check out the E3 Coliseum from E3 this week.
Vader Immortal is a story-driven VR experience. In it, you’re taken captive by the Dark Lord himself on the firery planet of Mustafar. It doesn’t take you long to escape and start exploring the origins of the planet and seeing a different side to Vader. Oh, and there’s a little lightsaber combat thrown in for good measure.

We really enjoyed the first episode of Vader Immortal on Quest. “Vader Immortal isn’t perfect,” we wrote. “It’s very much the first part of a larger series, one that leaves you wanting more of each of its individual elements. But it’s a significant step forward for VR, bolstering a line-up of experiences that emphasize audience emotions over playable technicalities. The pay-off, it successfully argues, is richer than any immersive Star Wars experience before it.”
That said, we’re looking forward to enjoying the experience on Rift. The Quest version looks great but is unmistakably optimized for a mobile headset.
As for the other two episodes in the series, there’s no word on when they will be releasing just yet.
