VR developer Hammerhead is moving from 10,000 leagues under the sea to the streets of Britain for its next game.

The UK-based studio this week teased Stein, its first project since the release of last years’ atmospheric horror game, Syren. We don’t have much to go on right now besides the below tweet, which suggests an intriguing mystery that somehow connects various crimes throughout British history. It certainly sounds different for a VR game, which is a very good thing.

Also of note is the use of volumetric capture from the new Dimension studio based in London. We exclusively revealed this studio late last year; based on a design by Microsoft, it uses 106 cameras to capture every facet of human performances and then digitizes them as 3D assets that can be used in any media. In the case of VR, this brings life-like characters into virtual worlds, as can be seen in recent apps like Blade Runner: Memory Labs. Hammerhead itself is in charge of the upkeep of the studio.

Expect Stein to feature realistic humans, then, which could make for terrifying interrogations and more. A demo for the game will be coming soon, though there’s no word on the full release nor which platforms it will launch on just yet.
