The Stormlight Archive Series Is Getting A VR Tie-In

We’ve seen films, games and music brought into VR with compelling adaptations, and now one of the most popular series of novels is coming to the HTC Vive, too.

The Way of Kings: Escape the Shattered Plains is an original VR adventure based on Brandon Sanderson’s best-selling The Stormlight Archive series (which has sold over 15 million copies across three books to date), due to release on Steam and Viveport on March 2nd. The piece is developed by Arcturus (which has worked on games like Virush) in collaboration with DMG Entertainment and written by Joshua Rubin, who worked on games like Destiny and Assassin’s Creed.

In the experience, which is developed as a short form adaptation, players will embody Kaladin, a young magic user that enters the mythical realm of Roshar where they’ll face off with legendary beasts and warriors. Judging by the trailer above, you can expect a visually impressive experience in which you use the Vive controllers to wield various abilities including the power to throw objects and walk on walls as well as punch enemies in the face. You may also get squashed by a giant monster.

Escape the Shattered Plains will cost $10.99 at launch. There’s no word on a possible Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR release just yet.
