Super Amazeballs Brings Perplexus To VR This Week

Remember Perplexus? That brilliantly addictive game in which you’d twist a sphere around, guiding a marble inside around a hugely complicated maze? Well it’s coming to VR, ableit in an unofficial way.

Developed by indie studio Braincells, Super Amazeballs uses the accuracy of the Oculus Touch and HTC Vive wands to replicate that experience inside VR. Releasing tomorrow, the game asks you to guide a ball towards a goal zone as quickly as possible. Virtualizing the game affords it some unique features; you’re able to scale the size of the sphere, bringing it to a size that suits you. Check out some gameplay below.

You’ll also get more than one course; 20 levels feature in total with different difficulty modes that will challenge how far you can take the ball with a single attempt. There’s also online leaderboards and a checkpoint system for those that are struggling with particular sessions.

I took Super Amazeballs for a spin (literally) earlier today. It definitely takes a little getting used to (I found playing with a smaller setup a little easier than a larger one), but the experience is well polished. Haptic feedback gives you some sense of when the ball hits an edge, though at times it’s impossible to keep it from veering off track. It might not be the most complicated VR experience but it’s a nice way to relive a game you may have played often in your childhood.

Super Amazeballs hits Steam on 16th May for $9.99. An Oculus Home release can come later down the line, though it’s already available on Rift through Valve’s platform.
