Slick 90s-inspired first person shooter Theta Legion VR is now available for the Oculus Rift and Rift S.
The shooter is lovingly inspired by 90s FPS games like Doom or Quake, which is evident across the entire design. It mixes 3D environments and 2D sprites for a nice homage to that classic era of PC shooters.
The game is actually an upgraded version of Theta Legion Go, which release in December last year on the Oculus Go platform. The developers, Garage Collective, call this new version of the shooter a “bigger, faster and more badass upgrade” to the original Go version, which was free.
We featured some new footage of the game in our Holiday Showcase earlier this month. You can check that out at the 48:27 mark, or embedded below with the timestamp.
According to the Oculus Store description, the game can be played seated with stick movement (along with comfort settings) or in a roomscale environment.
You’ll play as a member of the “Space Foreign Legion” investigating a plot to “terminate humanity”. The game is split into several missions, and according to the developers, it won’t be easy. “Prepare to die – a lot – until you are good enough to reach the heart of The Corporation and end their sinister plans…”
Theta Legion VR is available on the Oculus Store for Rift and Rift S now, priced at $9.99.
This won’t be the last VR release for the week either – the hotly anticipated game Boneworks from Stress Level Zero is out on Tuesday as well.
