Vive Fans Are Flocking to Save Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine's Steam Rating

After a weekend’s wait, Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine finally hit the HTC Vive yesterday, giving fans their first taste of the beloved series in VR. But not everyone was satisfied with the free experience.

Shortly after the game’s launch yesterday morning (or afternoon, depending where you are), the Steam page for it started filling up with negative reviews. Despite launching at no cost, some weren’t happy with the length of the experience – lasting about 10 minutes overall – and took issue with its visual fidelity. “30 seconds of gameplay……really?” one user review laments. “Took longer to download this game than it took to play.”

“It’s not very often that a free title would get a bad review from me,” another states, “but this really isn’t even worth it for the price of free.”

Just a few hours after release and Trials on Tatooine had been plagued by a swarm of negative reviews. Granted, it’s easy to expect more from a series as successful as Star Wars, but the experience is branded as an experiment. And, while the graphics might not be the finest yet in VR, the piece packs in a lot of wish fulfilment, allowing you to wield a lightsaber and meet R2-D2.

Fortunately, Star Wars and Vive fans have flocked to restore balance to the force user reviews. Over on the Vive subreddit, players have alerted others to the lacking reactions and sort to correct them. “This was much better than I actually expected. A larger space is a definite bonus,” one fan wrote. “Just a holy shit moment when the Millennium Falcon swoops in to land and you can walk over to greet R2.”

As such, Trials on Tatooine has now gained a ‘Very Positive’ rating, with 247 reviews recommending it at the time of writing against the 50 that weren’t satisfied. Granted not all of the complaints are unfounded, but I’ve played the game and the precious few moments I got to spend with an authentic lightsaber in VR are some of my favorite yet. For a free experience that I can use to introduce friends to VR in a quick and painless way, I’d say it’s definitely worth a download.

Developer ILMxLAB also needs the encouragement; it’s just announced a new narrative-driven Star Wars VR experience that stars none other than Darth Vader.
