Vanishing Realms Is Finally Getting A 'Full Expansion' In 'A Few Weeks'

This is a welcome bit of news that slipped under our radar during E3. Vanishing Realms, the excellent and long-in-development VR adventure game, is getting a full expansion soon.

News comes by way of developer Indimo on Steam. In a thread asking for an update the team simply responded: “Full Expansion ships in a few weeks, Ch3 & Ch4.”

Oh, okay then.

Long-time VR fans will recall that Vanishing Realms first launched alongside the HTC Vive back in 2016. The game was one of the first to deliver on the action-adventure VR fantasy. You explored a mystical land, doing battle with monsters and mages. The game featured full melee combat, archery and spell-casting. Fast forward to 2019 and lots of VR games have adopted the template Vanishing Realms established. Few have matched the thrill of its combat, though.

But the game has had precious few updates since its launch, and still only offers just a few hours of gameplay. It’s not clear if this upcoming expansion will ‘complete’ the game and bring it out of Early Access or if there are yet more levels to come. We also can’t help but notice the vague timing window aligns pretty closely with when we’re expecting Valve’s new headset, the Index, to start arriving on doorsteps. Indimo Labs founder Kelly Bailey is a former member of Valve, so we wouldn’t be surprised to learn he’s been experimenting with the flashy new headset.

Currently, the game supports the Vive and Rift headsets. Vanishing Realms costs $19.99 on Steam Early Access.
