At the Unity Vision Summit Valve co-founder Gabe Newell popped in via a pre-recorded video and announced every developer at the show would be getting a free Vive. That was all he said. One of the few solid facts about the free Vives was that developers would not be receiving the headset at the show itself, but rather an email would go out providing more details. That day has finally come.

Several Reddit and Twitter users posted on Thursday saying they’d received the email, signed up for a free Vive Pre and are awaiting further shipping updates in five days or less.
