The Welsh National Opera has collaborated with immersive technology company Arcade to produce a new AR experience titled The Vixen’s Tale at the Wales Millennium Centre from the 5th of October.
The experience is based on Leoš Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen and is described as a “tunnel book” which visitors can walk through while using a mobile AR experience to discover more about the opera’s characters, music, setting and more.
Arcade designed the experience for almost all ages, in an attempt draw in existing and new fans of opera to discover more about the genre. They described the experience as having “playful interactions, immersive illustrations and an arresting soundscape set across five physical arches.” The Vixen’s Tale opens at the Wales Millennium Centre from this Saturday, as part of Explore Opera Day.
However, it will also run for various dates throughout October, at the following times:
- October 5th: 10:00 – 19:00
- October 11th: 12:00-19:00
- October 7th – 25th: 12:00 – 17:00 during weekdays, 10:00 – 17:00 on weekends
- October 28th – November 1st: 10:00 – 17:00
The Welsh National Opera has also advertised the experience via an augmented reality marketing campaign, with posters placed around the Cardiff area in the last week. The posters come to life when users look at them through a “bespoke Snapchat lens” available on their phones, mimicking the way in which the actual tunnel-book experience works.
Do we have any readers in the area who are planning to check out The Vixen’s Tale over the next few weeks? If so, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
