Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am is well-known for his love of technology, but he’s only just jumping into the world of VR and AR with an innovative pair of apps.
In August of this year the artist released his very own graphic novel named Masters of the Sun: The Zombie Chronicles. The book mixes LA gang culture with Egyption mythology and, yes, zombies to shine a light on what’s happening to communities in the US. Now, though, he’s taking the book beyond the pages with his AR app for iOS and Android.
Launched on Friday, the app costs $1.99 and is compatible with the book. Users point their phone at various pages to see their characters come to life as 3D models in the real world. As if that weren’t enough, characters are voiced by a long lis of stars including Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dog. Topping it off is the narrator, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee. But that’s not all; the artists is also working with Oculus on a VR version of the app which, judging by the trailer above, is coming to Gear VR, though no date on that just yet.
