Wipeout Omega Collection's Free PSVR Update Is Out Now

When Sony XDev last week said that the free VR update for Wipeout Omega Collection was “so close you can smell it” they weren’t lying.

The update goes live today alongside the news that Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR) is getting an official price drop. It’s a long-awaited release; Wipeout is one of PlayStation’s best-known franchises and has been around since the days of the original console. The futuristic racer has always seemed like a perfect match for VR and even spawned a few similar games such as Radial-G for headsets.

Check out the trailer for the patch below while you’re busy downloading it.

Wipeout Omega Collection gathers tracks and vehicles from the last three releases in the series: HD, Fury and 2048. Unlike the VR support for Sony’s Gran Turismo Sport, the entire game has been ported to VR; even the main menu has been transformed into a 3D interface. That means you have a full racing campaign to enjoy inside the headset, sitting in the cockpit of the sci-fi racing machines.

Also new in the patch are three VR exclusive ships and spatial audio for a more immersive experience.

We’ll be sure to bring you impressions of the game as soon as we can.
