Update: Konami is in fact remaking the second Zone of the Enders game for PSVR, not the first. We’ve got the trailer below.
Another beloved gaming series is coming to Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR): Zone of the Enders.
Anubis: Zone of the Enders Mars was just announced at Sony’s 2017 Tokyo Game Show. All we saw was a brief trailer for the game but, from the looks of it, it’s a full remake of the second game with “complete” VR support that allows you to command the iconic Jehuty mech suit from a first-person cockpit view. It sounds like the original game will be available to play on a standard screen too, with new options like 4K support for PS4 Pro users.
Zone of the Enders was created with the help of Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima. It originally released in 2001 for the PS2. In it, players controlled mechs and took them to battle in other third-person gameplay. While the initial game was considered quite a short experience, its sequel is something of a cult classic.
This is a pretty big new release for PSVR. It’s scheduled to launch in Japan in Spring 2018, but no word on if it will come to the west around the same time (if at all). We’ll update this story if we hear more.
