Black Friday is looking like an excellent time to pick up a PlayStation VR (PSVR) headset, and Amazon has yet more deals you’ll want to take advantage of for getting the perfect setup.
Let’s start at the ground floor with the most essential thing you need to play on PSVR bar the headset itself – a PlayStation 4. Amazon has slashed just over $100 off the standard model, which will play every single PSVR game out there. Combine that with the Gran Turismo Sport bundle we’ll get to in a moment and you can go all-in on PSVR for around $500, which is easily the cheapest price we’ve yet seen for a high-end VR system.
If you haven’t heard (seriously, where have you been?) Skyrim is now on PSVR, and it’s kind of awesome. Save for a PS4 itself, this bundle includes you need to start your own virtual adventures in Tamriel; a PSVR headset, the camera to track it, a copy of Skyrim and two PlayStation Move controllers that let you realistically swing swords and fire arrows (though you can play with a DualShock 4 too). At $349, all of this is the price the original PSVR launched at as a standalone headset a little over a year ago. Quite the bargain, then.
Polyphony Digital made its PS4 debut with Gran Turismo Sport a few weeks back and it included some pretty polished, if very light VR content to boot. Basically, you can race any car on any track in 1 vs 1 AI races. It’s not the most abundant of experiences, but it’s still a heck of a lot of fun to play and, with a PSVR and camera for $299, you’re basically getting it for free. You can’t argue with free, can you?
VR is best experienced with a pair of headphones, so why not keep things strictly Sony with these official PS4 headphones. This offers 7.1 virtual surround sound, which will give you believable audio feedback from sounds emitting across your virtual worlds. And for all you RIGs players out there there’s a hidden noise-canceling microphone so you can chat to your friends for online play.
If you’re the kind of VR gamer that wants to dominate their friends in multiplayer then a PS Plus subscription is absolutely essential. Most multiplayer PS4 games require a PS Plus subscription to access, so you won’t be playing many EVE: Valkyrie matches without one. Oh and you’ll also get a suite of free games every month, which include some PSVR titles like RIGS: Mechanized Combat League as well as discounts on other games too.
