Detective Pikachu Event Invades Mobile AR Game Pokemon Go

Detective Pikachu Event Invades Mobile AR Game Pokemon Go

Detective Pikachu, starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the iconic electric mouse, hits theaters this weekend. Niantic Labs, developers of location-based mobile AR sensation Pokemon Go, are naturally launching a promotion in-game to coincide with the film’s release.

Through the event, Niantic is offering a variety of movie-inspired content, such as the clothing items pictured above, plus various in-game activities. You can see a tease of all that in the trailer below:

Pokemon featured in the film, such as Jigglypuff, Psyduck, and others will be more common in the game during the event for double XP and when you’re using the Go Snapshot feature, added earlier this year, you have a chance of getting photobombed by a Pikachu wearing a detective hat just like in the movie. You can even catch this version of Pikachu too.

Players can also expect field research events, special raid battles, and lots of new avatar items too.

“We’re excited for fans around the world to immerse themselves in the latest Pokémon adventure with ‘POKÉMON Detective Pikachu,’” said J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating the first live-action film with fun new experiences in Pokémon GO.”

This Detective Pikachu event is planned to last for a little over a week in Pokemon Go. It’s active now and will end on May 17. Fans of Pokemon Go will also be happy to know that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the next location-based mobile AR game from Niantic, is slated to release later this year as well. We’ve got more details on that AR game right here.
