For almost two years now HTC’s Vive X accelerator has been helping VR and AR-focused startups get off the ground in countries like China and the USA. Today, the group finally confirmed that it’s on its way to Europe, too.
Vive X is to open a London location soon, the company confirmed during its recent demo days for the third batch of groups to be inducted into the scheme. This is to be Vive X’s first European location and sixth overall site, joining Taipei, Beijing, Shenzhen, San Francisco and Tel Aviv.
The program offers startups a range of benefits, including mentorship as companies find their feet, support services and opportunities for networking and investment. For the latter perk, the group often partners with another HTC-led division, the Virtual Reality Venture Capital Alliance (VRVCA), which brings together a range of investors to assess hopeful companies. The last Vive X demo day in China, for example, was hosted in partnership with the VRVCA and showcased 17 teams to 50 VR/AR investors.
Among the most recent batch of Vive X companies are well-known VR developers like Cloudgate Studio as well as plenty of experimental outfits working on hardware and software solutions. We’ve already seen games like Age of Heroes VR spin out of the program.
Want to get involved? Applications to be a part of the fourth batch of Vive X companies will open on March 31st and run through to May 30th. You’ll be able to apply through the group’s official website.
