In these early days of the VR industry you often have to look beyond mainstream awards ceremonies like The Game Awards to find VR nominations that truly reflect the breadth and variety of the young industry. The Raindance VRX Awards promise to do just that.
Announced today, the VRX Awards will be hosted during the Raindance Film Festival (celebrating its 25th year) in the UK later this year, and will celebrate a number of different types of VR experiences. The awards look far beyond the best VR games of the past year, instead recongizing entires in Interactive Narrative, Mobile Interactive, Cinematic Narrative, Documentary, Music, Animation, Branded, Sensual, Social Impact, and Sound Design.
Submissions for the festival are currently open, accepting both 360 video and full VR experiences.
Raindance is looking to help spread knowledge of VR content creation with a series of masterclasses taking place in London in the coming weeks and months, too. In the coming weeks you can learn about distribution models, making experiences for social change, the power of intimacy in VR, and creating other narratives. There are also workshops and a Saturday film school.
For those that can’t make it in person, some of these talks will simultaneously be hosted in social VR space, AltspaceVR.
Raindance itself takes place from September 20th – October 1st, and this year’s event will have a VR arcade with many more events to take part in.
