Plenty of new games are being announced for Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR) headset every week, but Manifest 99 looks like one everyone should be paying attention to.
The first release from indie studio Flight School, Manifest 99 is a surreal journey through the afterlife set onboard a train. As you travel through fantastical environments you’ll meet companions on their way to their final destination. You’ll hop between characters, much like we did in Double Fine’s Psychonauts: In the Rhombus of Ruin, assisting characters in getting to their final stop and learning more about them as you go.
Interestingly, the game can be played using just the PSVR headset. Much of the gameplay remains a mystery right now, but this looks like the type of experience where that’s actually a good thing; we’re dying to find out more about it but we’ll just have to wait until it’s out. Pair those questions with a gorgeous art style that looks ideal for the PSVR headset and we have one of the more promising games set to arrive on the device in the near future.
And that future is near indeed; Manifest 99 launches on PSVR on September 12th in the US. We’ve reached out to the developer to confirm that it will be coming to the EU at the same time. If you’re looking for more on the game you might want to head over to the developer’s blog, where the team has some bonus insights like a comic book based on the experience.
