As consumer VR continues to establish itself in the market, awards ceremonies for the medium are increasingly inevitable. We already have some winners, but today we have a new event, too.
The VR Awards is an international ceremony organized by VR Bound and partner companies, set to take place in London on Oct. 9 2017. The show aims to celebrate some of the biggest and best releases in the industry over the past year, from the hardware, software, and business side. Categories will look at the best VR headset, games, and uses of the technology in areas like healthcare and education.
Nominations for the awards will be accepted from March 13th to May 1st. A panel of 25 judges will be selecting winners, including BAFTA’s Nick Button-Brown, Jaunt VR’s Dominic Collins, and Emblematic Group’s Nonny de la Peña.
12 categories feature in total. The full list is as follows:
- VR Headset of the year
- Mobile VR Headset of the Year
- VR Hardware of the year
- VR Game of the year
- Innovative VR Company of the year
- VR experience of the year
- Most Creative use of Marketing in VR
- Interactive VR Media / Film of the Year
- VR Startup of the year
- Best use of VR in Education and Training
- Best use of VR in Healthcare

Earlier this week the winner’s of HTC’s Viveport Developer Awards were also announced, and just yesterday VR and AR games won at the annual DICE Awards. We also handed out our own awards for the best VR apps at the end of last year, and we’ll no doubt be doing so again at the end of 2017.

Update: The date of the VR awards was changed to Oct. 9. The story has been updated to reflect the date change.
